FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does Tailwind GPS work?

Tailwind GPS is a web-based route planning tool that scores cycling routes using forecast wind, temperature and rainfall. Each route receives a score for every departure hour, making it easy to identify the best time to ride.

How is it different from a standard weather forecast?

A conventional weather forecast provides conditions for a single location. Tailwind analyses the entire route, accounting for changes in direction and your expected riding pace to estimate how the weather will affect the ride from start to finish.

Can I import my existing routes?

Yes. You can connect Strava, upload GPX files or create routes directly within Tailwind.

What does the Tailwind Score represent?

The score is a route-specific rating between 0 and 100 for a particular departure time. Higher scores indicate more favourable riding conditions, while lower scores suggest stronger headwinds or less favourable weather.

Can I navigate my routes as well?

Yes. Routes can be followed directly in your mobile browser with turn-by-turn guidance and optional voice prompts. GPX export is also available for Garmin and Wahoo devices.

What's included in the free plan?

The free plan includes three saved routes and a three-day weather forecast. Tailwind Pro adds support for up to 60 routes, a 14-day forecast, route alerts and weekly forecast summaries.

Who is Tailwind for?

Tailwind is designed for cyclists who regularly ride the same training routes and want to choose the most favourable conditions — from weekend rides and club routes to deliberate training sessions.
